1. Ôn lại lý thuyết về thì quá khứ đơn

1.1. Công thức thì quá khứ đơn

Tương tự như các thì trong tiếng Anh, Simple Past Tense – Thì quá khứ đơn là một trong 12 Thì cơ bản trong tiếng Anh. Tham khảo cấu trúc thì quá khứ đơn ở 3 dạng câu: thể khẳng định, thể phủ định và câu nghi vấn.

Phủ định	S + was/were not + N/O	S + did not + V (nguyên mẫu)	Hung wasn’t at home yesterday (Hôm qua Hùngkhông ở nhà.) Phong didn’t come to school last week (Tuần trước Phong đã không đến trường.) John didn’t come back last Saturday. We weren’t in Las Vegas from Tuesday to Friday of last month.
Nghi vấn	Was/Were+ S + V (nguyên mẫu)?	Did + S + V (nguyên mẫu)?	– Was your sister tired of yesterday? (Chị gái bạn có bị mệt ngày hôm qua không?) → Yes, she was           hoặc  → No, she wasn’t.  – Did you go to library with Thao last weekend? (Bạn có đi tới thư viện với Thảo vào cuối tuần trước hay không?) → Yes, I did. (Có, mình có – Did he miss the flight the day before?

 

*Trong đó: 

• You/ We/ They/ N số nhiều đi kèm với were
• I/ He/ She/ It/ N số ít đi kèm với was.

1.2. Cách sử dụng thì quá khứ đơn

• Diễn đạt một sự việc/hành động xảy ra trong quá khứ tại thời gian cụ thể và hiện tại đã kết thúc.

Ví dụ: I saw him in the mall.

• Diễn đạt một sự việc/hành động xảy ra trong quá khứ ở một khoảng thời gian và hiện tại đã kết thúc.

Ví dụ: John lived in Ho Chi Minh for 10 years.

• Diễn đạt một sự việc/hành động xen vào một sự việc/hành động khác đang xảy ra ở trong quá khứ.

Ví dụ: When I took a shower, my friend came to the door.

• Sử dụng trong If clause (câu điều kiện) loại 2.

Ví dụ: If I had a lot of money, I would help the poor.

Cách dùng thì quá khứ đơn	Ví dụ
1. Diễn tả một hành động hay một sự việc nào đó đã xảy ra tại một thời điểm cụ thể, hoặc một khoảng thời gian trong quá khứ và nó đã kết thúc hoàn toàn ở quá khứ.	Jun came home late last night. (Jun đã về nhà muộn đêm qua.) I saw him in the mall. John lived in Ho Chi Minh for 10 years.
2. Diễn tả một hành động diễn ra lặp đi lặp lại trong quá khứ	The childrens always enjoyed going to the zoo. (Bọn trẻ luôn luôn thích thú khi đi thăm vườn bách thú.)
3. Diễn tả các hành động/ sự việc xảy ra liên tiếp trong quá khứ	Long came home, took a nap, then had lunch. (Long về nhà, ngủ một giấc, rồi ăn trưa.)
4. Diễn tả một hành động xen vào một hành động nào đó đang diễn ra trong quá khứ	When my mother was cooking lunch, the lights suddenly went out. (Khi mẹ tôi đang nấu bữa trưa thì đột nhiên đèn tắt.) When I took a shower, my friend came to the door.
5. Dùng trong câu điều kiện loại 2 (diễn tả hành động không có thật ở hiện tại).	If I were Linda, I would do it. (Nếu tôi là Linda, tôi sẽ làm thế.) If I had a lot of money, I would help the poor.

 

1.3. Dấu hiệu nhận biết thì quá khứ đơn

Để nhận ra động từ trong câu được chia ở thì quá khứ đơn, ta nên chú ý vào các từ như sau:

Bài số 3. Hoàn thiện câu chuyện bằng cách chia động từ trong ngoặc ở thì quá khứ đơn 

Snow White was the daughter of a beautiful queen (nữ hoàng), who died when the girl (câu 1. be) ______ young. Her father (câu 2. marry)___________ again, but the girl’s stepmother (mẹ kế) was very jealous of her because she was so beautiful.

The evil queen (câu 3. order)_________ a hunter to kill Snow White but he couldn’t do it because she was so lovely. He (câu 4.
